The Queen Mary 2 Alien Hand Experience

The Queen Mary 2 Alien Hand Experience No going back with the art now ... This happened in 2005, but I'm writing it up in 2026 as a Star Event which explained a lot about many things. At the time, I just thought it was curious, shrugged, and stopped entering art competitions henceforth.

Now it is a thing that I don't do well in competitions of that nature. I'm laughing here. The usual response is WTF is this even? with instant rejection following swiftly. I ... tend to make things which are not what the competition people (poetry, art, writing) are "looking for."

I understand that, I do. It's that thing with the "art class" on the Queen Mary, where 49 people had done the exact same attempt at a beach below and water and sky above with a single palm tree the teacher had set up with a photo - and there was one symbol painting in red on one easel. I didn't do that deliberately, my hand just went mad with the brush. But yeah. You can't expect to win "best watercolour painting of a beach with a palm tree" if you do stuff like that. It's not fair, it's ... seriously, Silvia. What are you doing? - "It wasn't me, it was my hand! It's not my fault! Whaaaa ..."

Look, I don't try to be different. It's not like that. It's not even about that. Every piece of art contains the movements of the artist at that time. Indeed, art and spirituality (which might be the same thing) are not a competition.

We make them into competitions because that's a thing people just do. The key insight here is that you don't win a palm tree competition with a red squiggle. That's the big life lesson here, nothing else.

One of these things just doesn't belong here ...
