Elory's Joy
The Illustrations
When the time came to start thinking about illustrating my (first?) completed book of classic, original fairy tales, of course I wanted to do Symbol Paintings to go with each fairy tale.
The stories from Elory's Joy are fantastic creations. They are at the furthest end of all my skills and capabilities with shamanic streaming and channelling, languaging, energy and metaphor; they are a gift from me for "the child within", the stories I should have been told when I was a child but I wasn't. It seemed important that this omission should be corrected, very important, actually, and so Elory's fairy tales are a personal development/healing/intelligence enhancing device like no other.
However, it is entirely possible that at some point, someone other than myself gets their hands on Elory's Joy, and so I compromised and chose to do the symbol hybrids instead - essentially symbol paintings, but they have a component of a recognisable shape so that people's conscious minds have something to lock on to and don't feel left out.
All these illustrations are very simple, and they are also immensely complex on many levels.
Each one is particular to the fairy tale absolutely and in every way; each one took me between three days and a week to make.
So here they are.

A vibrant digital artwork, reminiscent of stained glass, presents a surreal night sky filled with swirling celestial bodies and a solitary, abstract human figure looking upwards.
The composition is divided diagonally, with the upper portion dominated by a dark, fragmented sky filled with colorful spheres and spirals, while the lower portion depicts a stylized, glowing landscape. The overall arrangement creates a sense of depth and wonder, drawing the viewer's eye from the earthly foreground to the cosmic expanse above. The silhouette of a human figure is positioned on the right, facing towards the upper sky, suggesting contemplation or awe. The use of thick black lines to delineate shapes, characteristic of stained glass, adds a graphic quality to the scene.
The key subjects are the various spheres and swirling forms scattered throughout the sky, each rendered with a subtle gradient to suggest three-dimensionality. Two prominent spheres, one yellow with a black spiral and another green with a black spiral, are centrally placed and seem to emit their own light. Other spheres are depicted in vibrant colors such as orange, blue, red, and pink, some appearing solid while others have a more diffused glow. The human figure is rendered as an abstract, translucent silhouette, filled with pastel gradients of blue, purple, and pink, suggesting a connection to the celestial realm.
The artistic medium is digital illustration, meticulously emulating the aesthetic of stained glass. The style is characterized by bold, dark outlines, faceted geometric shapes, and a rich, saturated color palette. The creative choice to combine the visual language of stained glass with a surreal, cosmic theme results in a dreamlike and imaginative image. The rendering of the spheres with gradients and subtle highlights adds a modern digital touch to the traditional stained glass effect.
The setting is a fantastical, abstract night. The background is a deep, dark blue, segmented by the stained-glass-like lines into various geometric shapes that evoke a sense of infinite space or a cosmic pattern. Scattered within this space are the luminous celestial bodies. The foreground appears to be a stylized landscape, depicted in shades of white, grey, and pastel colors, also segmented by black lines, creating a glowing, ethereal ground. The lighting conditions are internal, with the celestial bodies and the landscape seemingly generating their own light, casting an otherworldly glow across the scene and contributing to a mood of mystery, enchantment, and spiritual contemplation.

2023 December saw the publication of the 2nd Edition which now contains these images (at last). There was an additional Fairy Tale, "The Fairy Gift" which had lost its illustration, so I made a new one:
