Evolving The Guiding Star Of The Eternal Learner
Having worked in the field of personal development and psychology for the last 30 years, there are some global patterns which occur time and time again. The Guiding Star of the Eternal Learner is one of them; this is something that stops people from becoming public speakers, trainers, motivational speakers, leaders in other words and it is generally entirely misdiagnosed.
Are you an "eternal learner" who never goes on to becoming the teacher ...?
I once met a lady who had trained in a hundred different modalities. She had an entire filing cupboard devoted to her many certificates and she always spoke about setting up her own training organisation, had very clear ideas what she wanted to bring to the people, had all the skills and talents necessary, was a lovely lady with tremendous experience - and yet, the trainings never manifested, nothing happened other than she would go on more and more training courses, and study more and more and further things.
She was treated by endless holistic therapists and energy psychologists for her "reversals to becoming a public speaker" but nothing worked - until the day I asked her what her Guiding Star with the whole personal development field was.
Here, she told me of an enlightenment experience she had during an introduction day held by a famous motivational speaker.
And there it was - the Guiding Star was in the audience, during a practice exercise.
It was not on the stage. It was being a member of the audience, a learner at this seminar.
This was what she was seeking to re-create. She didn't consciously know this and had rationalised the event to mean that she should be a teacher, someone who is on the stage and facilitating these fabulous experiences for the audience.
And that might even be true and right; but the Guiding Star was in the audience, and not on the stage.
I have come across this pattern in variations a hundred times by now.
If a person is in the position of a student at the time the Guiding Star happens, they will become "the eternal student" or "the eternal learner." That's how Guiding Stars work; they will endeavour to recreate themselves as the highest taste automatically and until something is done with that.
This also happens to "eternal readers" who had a Guiding Star as a reader and now want to switch to being an author.
Likewise, their own manuscripts never manifest and the reading continues. There are many more variations on this pattern but the answer in all cases is the same - we need to switch our perception and evolve the Guiding Star.
In essence, the lady from our example who had her Guiding Star in the audience needs to go back to that time and get on the stage herself, with the aspect remaining in the audience. She (now) needs to take the point of view the person on the stage had on that day, and experience an event with the audience from that perspective.
In this case, when the lady (now) stepped onto the stage she felt first of all a huge sense of relief, the next thing that happened was that she felt an overwhelming sense of love for her audience and giving this love to all of them (which included her own past aspect) created the new event.
She cried out, "I have so much to give! I want to get on that stage again ...!" and here we have a new Guiding Star that will take her from the audience and into that new perceptual position any leader, teacher, motivational speaker needs to take.
In another example, where the Guiding Star happened with a book, the person (now) stepped into the memory, sat at a desk, wrote a story and gave it to the aspect, which read it and was amazed by it. When the aspect looked up from what they had written and into the person's eyes with awe, admiration and gratitude, the new event came into being and the person said they had now understood what it is to be an author, and how much better that is than being a reader.
How much more appropriate for them now.
So if you have something where you are not "fulfilling your potential" and you keep playing the part of the metaphorical "eternal learner" ask yourself where the Guiding Star is located and switch your (now) conscious point of view to the other, the one who provided the experience the aspect had in the first place.
If you had a Guiding Star in therapy with "being the client" then now's the time to be the therapist.
This is a simple but tremendously effective and helpful pattern that has a multitude of applications across human endeavour and which can free up some of the most confounding incarnational loop-di-loops that people find themselves trapped inside.
